In addition, he will be taking your questions on the news media in general and the Herald-Leader in particular.

Lexington’s Police and Firefighter Pension and Disability

The Lexington Forum is excited to close out its 2010-2011 program year with a panel discussion on the hot-button issue of Lexington’s Police and Firefighter Pension and Disability fund which is facing unfunded liabilities of approximately $222 million.

Lexington attorney Bill Lear will lead the panel discussion with a brief history. Lexington Forum board member Dr. Ray Garman will provide a brief definition of disability under the current plan. Council Representative Doug Martin and attorney Don  Todd will offer opposing perspectives on whether or not the system should be changed. This will be followed by a question and answer session.

A Preview of the Visionary
New Chandler Hospital

Join us at Keeneland with Dr. Michael Karpf for a preview of the visionary new Chandler Hospital opening in May. The University of Kentucky is set to open the first phase of the new Chandler Hospital – a $570 million facility that will provide the latest in cutting-edge health technology and space. It’s part of a vision for modern health care articulated by the Forum’s April speaker, Dr. Michael Karpf, executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Kentucky. Since coming to UK in 2003, Karpf has expanded revenues of UK HealthCare’s clinical operation from about $375 million annually to nearly $900 million in revenues while embarking on an aggressive mission to build a Top 20 academic medical center.
